Your mindset creates your reality

Did you know that you are responsible for creating the life you are currently living? That life doesn’t just happen to you? Every thought you have, every belief you hold, every action that comes from those thoughts and beliefs all shape your outcomes in life. The way you talk to yourself and the habits you have formed over your lifetime have all contributed to how you experience life and what you get from life. If what you are getting from life is not what you want or if you would like to improve your outcomes then your mindset is where you need to start.

On a very basic level mindset refers to your worldview, your beliefs about life, and your beliefs about yourself and others. But as Gerry Hussey explains in episode 1 of my podcast Mindset Matters mindset is so much more. He emphasizes that mindset is more than just brain activity. It's a symphony of messages from the brain, gut, skin, and organs. When these are in harmony, we feel strong, we feel confident. Like we can take on the world and all its challenges. "Mindset is the whole of the being," Gerry states, highlighting the importance of balance in our mental and physical health.

We live in a world where challenges are inevitable, however, it's how we look at those challenges that determine what we achieve, what we learn and what we create for ourselves. Imagine waking up each day with the belief that you can shape your reality. This isn't just a dream — it's a possibility, as Gerry passionately explains. By harnessing the power of mindset, you can transform challenges into opportunities, redefine your limitations, and create a life that aligns with your deepest aspirations. “If you’re not saying…if you’re not saying I’m absolutely capable of achieving my dreams you’re not going to believe it,” as Gerry so passionately puts it.

Every coach will tell you that your inner dialogue, or how you speak to yourself shapes your reality. Gerry advises, "Listen to the story you're telling yourself." Positive self-talk can prime our brain to see opportunities rather than threats, influencing our decisions and even our genetic expression. "Nothing impacts us more than our inner story." He explains that the words we use and the thoughts we entertain can either empower us or hold us back. "Listen to the story you're telling yourself," Gerry advises, highlighting that our self-talk primes our brain to see the world through a lens of opportunity or threat. He further elaborates, "The words you use, the things you think about have the ability to shape your decisions, but they also have the ability to change the expression of your genes, your cells, your immune system, and your nervous system." By consciously choosing empowering narratives, we can transform our perception and, ultimately, our reality.

The journey to harnessing the power of mindset is deeply personal and transformative. Each one of us experiences life through our own lens. We’ve had our ups and downs and trauma forms part of that equation for many. So everyone’s mindset journey will be different. It’s not a one size fits all exercise. As Gerry Hussey illustrates, it's about embracing curiosity, challenging old beliefs, and being open to growth. In doing so, we can redefine our reality and live a life of purpose and joy.
